[MKV GTI] Reverse accident, parking sensors no longer work + other few questions

Long story short, reversed into a brick wall at a slow speed which caused some light scratches and a crack in the right tail light. The reverse parking sensors now no longer work. They normally beep when put into reverse and then beep according to how far you are from any object behind you. The beep on initial engagement sounds different now (different tone) and no longer beeps at all after the initial beep. There are no scratches or damage to the circle sensors from what I can see, does anyone know why the unit itself has stopped working? Are the reverse sensors that sensitive to damage?

I'm going to buy rear tail lights and replace them myself, does anyone know where the cheapest to buy would be? Or where I could just get a single right rear tail light?

I will get the light damages fixed by a panel repair shop, hopefully the cost wont be too expensive. Pretty bummed at the moment.

Any help would be great, thanks all

    Sorry about the accident

You quite often see tail lights for sale in the classified section, or the usual places like ebay or a wrecker.

I had a similar experience with no beep in reverse and fortunately no contact with objects.

I noticed it when selecting reverse and no visible reverse light reflected off walls and no sound to engage the sensors.

It turned out to be a combination failure of the reverse switch in the manual transmission and a brittle part of the wiring loom under constant vibration and heat. Mind you I have a diesel that vibrates more harshly than a petrol might.

Cost around $240 to fix at my friendly VW specialist in the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne.

    Cheers,

I think you have upset the control module by hitting the brick wall. Basically it has decided that you obviously don't listen to it anyway, so why should it bother.
